Hello to All
Am new to your list and wonder if anyone can help me. I have a copy of a
certificate admitting Samuel Bensted, Gentleman, as a freeman of the City
of Rochester dated 12 July 1830.
What I would like to know is how did he acquire these rights. I believe you
could inherit, acquire by adoption, purchase or by apprenticeship acquire
these rights.
Samuel Bensted married in Rotherhithe Surrey in 1827 had various children in
the same area till 1834. Had a victualler's license there in 1832. What I
don't know is where Samuel was born although I think his roots are going to
be in Kent.
I know his father is Joseph Bensted and wondered if maybe he inherited the
freeman rights from his father. Could someone tell me if it is possible to
find out this information.
Many thanks for your time
