As family historians we cannot ignore the difference between legitimate
children of the parents and the illegitimate children of parents,
whether we we like to or not.
Many think that the 1926 Act now makes all children born out of wedlock
legitimate but this is not the case, there are many instances where such
children are not and indeed may never be legitimated.
I do however feel it is our duty, if we wish to use such terms, to
ensure that we only use the terms in the context of their correct
meaning and never use the slang meaning in our writings or conservation.
Cheers
