Hello List! I am back from vacation and have re-subbed with a new address.
I recently received some very interesting information on some of my
individuals from Bosse Funeral Home in Louisville, KY. After the response
to my first inquiry, which informed me that pre-1937 records had been
damaged in the flood and pre-1922 records gave very little information, the
turnaround time on my specific request was extremely quick - I was very
surprised and pleased because I had requested info on some seven
individuals! Mr. Jim Wagner is the person who corresponded with me. If
anyone needs info from Bosse's, I"'ll gladly give you the address.
In addition to finding an unknown maiden name of one of my
great-great-grandmothers (YEAH!), I found such details as the church in
which the funeral was held (although one was held in the son's residence),
lists of survivors (some had names listed, some just said 1 brother, 2
grandchildren, etc.), cemetery and location of grave, and newspaper
notices.
I have some obits that my grandmother had kept, but of course, I have no
idea what paper they had been cut from or date/page/column info. Each
individual's record has several notices listed. However, they are "in code"
and I need some help cracking it!
I know CJ would be Courier-Journal and T or Times would be the Louisville
Times, but could someone tell me what "H", "P" or "HP" stand for? I also
know that for a while the Courier-Journal and the Times were merged and
these are listed as "CJ & T". I am guessing that "H", "P" and "HP" must be
German language papers since only two of my oldest ancestors had notices in
them - one was from Switzerland and the other (his wife) was from Bavaria.
The others (I am pretty sure) are all first generation American.
Also, if someone is willing/able to do lookups for me on these, I greatly
appreciate it! E-mail me privately and I will give you what details I
have - the funeral home info gave the dates and in some cases how many lines
were run.
Thanks!
Cecile
