Hi List----When I left Ky in 1995 a number of brown bears had traveled
over the
mountain from Virginia Some had traveled down as far as London, KY.
Flax is a plant similar to wheat only it is grown to make linen. Our
ancestors grew the
flax,, did what they called "breaken the flax", carded, spun the thread,
and wove the material. I had a holloween story and did not get around
to typing
it before the day. In fact, I had two stories, both of which are true.
My parents (set up housekeeping) in a haunted house. The owner of the
house
could not get anyone to stay there. . Everyone moved out as soon as
they heard
the "haunting sounds and events." The house was located in a hallow
along the
side of a small creek which made a rather confined area for the house.
The
haunting consisted of a door that opened .by itself, a woman screaming
and
chains dragging on the roof. The first thing my parents confronted was
the opening door. I am sure a number of you can related to a closed
stairway with a door leading to the steps. In this case, the stairway
door would open before one reached the door. In order to belie the
opening door, My father did some experiments and found a loose board in
the floor not far from the door. He also found that the latch on the
door was worn and opened from the vibrations of the board. He repaired
the latch. So much for that ghost. They diid not experience the other
two "haunts" until the night of a large storm. The woman screaming was
terrible and the chain dragging very unsettling. The next morning my
father started seeking some answers. He found a rusty saw in a
fork of the tree. When the saw was blown in a certain direction, it
rubbed against the tree and made the screaming sounds. It also turned
out that a limb of the tree brushing across the roof in a heavy wind.
made the chain dragging sound. So much for the other ghosts. They lived
in the house for a number ofyears without any more "haunts.!" I have a
question, what are greasy beans and plum grannys? I have tried for
severel years to find out exactly the nature of the two products.
