Hey list, below is a reply to me from the author about the year of the book
with copyright.
It's really dated 1996 not 1900. That makes the situation entirely different
and indeed the copyright stands. Permission has to be granted from the
author and in this case it has not been granted. I wouldn't grant permission
on a volume of work so recent either. Nothing hard nosed about it.

This is a good education for the list and may settle future copyright
questions.

Since this situation has arisen, will the list manager allow the author to
tell the cost of the book? Pleeeeze.
