Subject: [KY] Woods Family - Christian County KY [c1800]
Date: Tue, 18 Jan 2000 21:03:30 -0700
Looking for information on the following Woods family members who lived
in early Christian County KY. They are of record of receiving the
following land grants. Note that a number of these individuals received
subsequent grants. The date indicated corresponds with their first
grant.
Robert Woods (11-10-1798)
Bartholomew Woods (12-27-1798)
John Woods (4-6-1799)
Henry M. Woods (4-8-1799)
Sally Woods (7-26-1803)
Thomas Woods (2-28-1807)
Kentucky received statehood in 1792 and the 1800 Christian Census
enumerates only Bartholomew (from an early tax list) with no additional
information. The 1810 Census enumerates:
Henry Woods (born before 1765)
David Woods (born between 1765-1784)
Isham F. Woods (born between 1765-1784)
Thomas Woods (born before 1765)
Jessy Woods (born between 1784-1794)
It should be noted that it is conceivable that Bartholomew (and perhaps
his father?) earlier received the following North Carolina Land Grants
in TN:
#204 Bartholomew Woods, 1782 Washington Co, 558 acres "on the waters of
Big Limestone Creek."
#435 Bartholomew Woods, Jr., 1783 Washington Co, 200 acres "on the
waters of the Little Nolechuky River."
I would appreciate any information or comments indicating from where, or
from whom, this family might have descended. Thanks for any assistance.
