Bigbird has been offline since the wee hours of Monday & so I have not
checked email since Sunday evening. Hopefully it will be online tomorrow
sometime.

Tonight, I subscribed to the KILLIAN list from Juno. Juno seems to be
having trouble also. I hope you all get this before dawn Tuesday.
I can get your posts to the list from the server via my account on Juno,
Midnet,
and AOL, so am not really cut off. I am just delayed.

I telneted out of Midnet to genealogy.org & found that Michael Cooley had
created an ftp site for us called KILLIAN. I moved, from RAGSDALE to
KILLIAN, all the files that Sam Kent has scanned for us. I also moved
them down so that we can browse to them from our/my web pages.
I went into AOL & looked at Andreas Killian's signature jpeg. It seems
to
work fine, so I will assume the larger jpegs of Andreas will, will also
open.
Others can scan stuff & put them on the ftp site. We have Andreas' stuff
because that is all I have been given. And my linking to your homepages
is another option.

If you have no web browser, but have an internet provider (e.g. univ or
freenet)
that makes ftp available to you, you can get the jpegs that Sam Kent
scanned
by using ftp to go to the anonymous ftp site
ftp.genealogy.org and using cd to go to
/pub/genealogy/surnames/KILLIAN
Plus, you can upload files via ftp to
/pub/genealogy/surnames/KILLIAN/incoming

You can also browse to the ftp site but I don't know if you can upload to
the
incoming directory using a browser (e.g. Netscape, Internet Explorer,
mosaic).
I was able to download by using AOL's builtin browser to browse to the
ftp
site. It downloaded to my c: drive in the path/filename I specified.

You can also view the jpegs on the ftp site using AOL's builtin browser, just
like you can at our url. I assume any graphical browser will let you
view the
jpegs on an ftp site.
