The following death notice of John W. Kincaid notes that he invented the
first automatic locomotive stoker.

JOHN W. KINCAID

CINCINNATI, July 31 (AP). - John W. Kincaid, credited with the invention of
the first automatic locomotive stoker, died in his home near here today. He
had been ill eight weeks. He was 68 years old. A half-century ago, Mr.
Kincaid became an employe of the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad at Hinton, W.
Va. He conceived his idea and, completing a model, sought financial
backing. J. H. Day, head of a machinery manufacturing firm here, aided in
organization of the Day-Kincaid Stoker Company.
