Helle everyone,

I was surprised to see that a Kinkead had a strong role in the development
of the hand grenade in WW I. Thought I'd pass on the following.

*****
Geoffrey R. Kinkead

New Rochelle, N.Y., Nov. 21 - Geoffrey R. Kinkead, a designing and
mechanical engineer credited with developing the percussion cap used in
detonating hand grenades in World War I, died yesterday in his home , 193
Woodland Avenue. He was 72 years old.

He had been a mechanical engineer for the Aluminum Company of America in
Edgewater, N.J., for the last twenty-five years. Before the first World
War, Mr. Kinkead was a vice president of Browne & Sharpe, toolmakers, of
Providence, R.I. During the war, he operated his own firm in Providence and
later was a master mechanic for the Gorham Silver Company in Providence.

He leaves his wife, Emily; a son, Hubert of Willow Grove, Pa., and a
daughter, Mrs. William R. Sundermeyer of New Rochelle.
