I believe the John Kinkead, son of David and Winifred is completely
separate from John (the Weaver) of Augusta and Bath county. Both married
Elizabeth's. I believe the weaver married twice and had two sets of
children, as mentioned in his and her wills.

David's son John married an Elizabeth (Logan) - we know this from a
Bible record and from early and later records of the Robert Logan
family, who lived near John in Albemarle County, moved with him to
Washington County, where John was executor and inherited from Robert's
estate. After living in Albemarle County, they moved to the Calfpasture
in Augusta, then moved to Washington County in the early 1770s, where
David died in 1779. John is mentioned extensively in the early records
of Washington county. This John stayed in Washington County until about
1790, when I lost track of him.

We have to be very careful here because there were many Johns. When
David was in Albemarle, there are records of a James (d. 1761) and a
Joseph (d. 1774) who may have been his brothers or uncles. Even in
Washington county there were at least 2 John Kinkeads. The other John
there was apparently the son of Joseph. I think he was the John who
built the Wilderness Road. He was in Lincoln Co. Ky. by 1784. The John,
son of James was the one who moved to Indian creek in Greenbrier, wife
Ann. He also had a son John who married an Elizabeth.

None of them was the weaver, to the best I have been able to figure out.
The weaver may have been the son or nephew of still another John, the
Rev. John Kinkead, but I have not found any records to substantiate
this, except that the Rev. sold the weaver half of his Calfpasture land.
There were also Johns in Chester, Cumberland and Allegheny Counties, PA,
as well as at least one in N. Carolina.

Confused? This was why I postponed my further digging - too many early
Kinkeads, not enough early records and I don't have the time anymore.
All the above from memory from over 3 years ago - I didn't refresh from
my records, so I could have misstated something, but I don't think so.
