First, Thank you all for your encouragement and a special thanks to Debi for taking what I post a step further. Every bit helps us with this puzzle.
Beverley Manor
The Augusta site has a plat map of Beverley Manor. It is rather large and presented in parts. I am not going to go tract by tract here. There are large areas with only marginal interest to us. I will touch on them briefly in the interest of completion, then concentrate more heavily on Christians Creek.
South Fork of the Shenandoah.
The river curves around the east and south borders of the Manor. On south and east of the river individual grants prevail. There are only a few tracts inside and out that have any interest for us. I will briefly run from the source to the NE corner of the Manor, giving the initial buyers.
The source is actually a series of creeks. Robert and George Breckenridge, James Lynn, Samuel Steel, Robt. Alexander and James Fulton appear in this area. There are 3 tracts that are on both South River and Christian Creek. Samuel Doak, Patrick Campbell and James Robertson. The river tends north on these tracks. Turning east (Christians Creek continues north) we come to one that holds some interest. Joseph Mills in the original owner. He sells to John Wilson's father who sells to Joseph Love. In 1764 Joseph sells to Samuel Caldwell.
We then have tracks for Wm Long, James Bell, Gabriel Alexander, William Long, John Black, Samuel Davison and James Patton. The river starts its northern turn. Edward Hall, John McClure, A. Stuart, David Henderson (in 1765 Alex Henderson sell 320a of this land to James Bratton), Joseph Teas, John Campbell, Daniel Monohan, John Hart, George Robinson, Samuel Gay, George Hume, Robert Turk and a couple of Bloodsworths bring us to the NE corner. Gillespy Creek has its mouth on Rbt. Turks land. James Gillespe holds land at the source.
On the south and east side.
1753 John Robinson Sr sells 200a to Wm Robinson. part of 2 tracts pat. to John 1746. S Fork Goose Creek c John Robinson.
1761 Rbt and Margaret Turk to Adam Dean 160a on SE side of S. River. part of 2 tracts pat. to Rbt. In 1765 Adam & Eleanor Dean sell to Charles Teas c Robt. Turk c John Patrick. Test. Wm Teas, John Dean and Samuel Kincaid.
1762 Thomas Turk to Fred Skul, Wm Lambs line by an island, Rbt Eliots corner.
LONG MEADOW
Here again there is little of interest to us.
The source is not far from Joseph Teas. The creek tends NW at first. James Davis and Archibald Stuart, Sarah Thompson, Robt Caldwell, Thomas Thompson and Saml McCune are on this section. There is a large tract to the Rev James Anderson. The Creek turns decidedly North on his land. John Seawright and Samuel McCune again. George Hutchinson, James Alexandar, William Skillern, James Car and Samuel Barber complete the Beverley portion. The mouth on Middle River we have already mentioned.
LEWIS CREEK
Skipping Christian Creek for now. Lewis Creek sources on on the land of James Lockhart, as does Youngs Creek and Back Creek, which we have already gone over. Going downstream we have a John Wilson survey, Samuel Downey and an Alexander Jephbetus?? surver. Here a branch that starts on Alexander Campbell's land and flows through Wm. Ledgerwood and a James Callison survey enters Lewis Creek. James Collison again, John Bigham, then John Lynn. John Henderson , and Robert McClanahan. We are now entering the Staunton area. John Miller to the south followed by John Madison. To the North Wm. Fleming and James Miller.. The Creek then flows through Beverley's 2050a tract (Beverley's Mill Place). Next is John Lewis' 2050a tract. After this the Creek leaves Beverley Manor. There is much that happens in the Mill Place (Staunton) and I will come back to this point.
This is a good stopping point. We have the Staunton and Christian Creek left and they will take some time. Sue........
