Yesterday while at the library, I copied some pages from Alabama Records Vol
71-Madison Co., AL compiled by Pauline Jones Gandrud. It is on the family
of Rev. John Allan of Huntsville, AL b Hertford England April 21, 1788, his
father David Allan a native of Ayrshire, Scotland and his mother was Mary
Knight of Dorsetshire, England. It goes:

"Following the example of Matthew Knight, a brother of David Allan's wife,
who had emigrated to the State of Georgia, the parents of John Allan
embarked for American July, 1801."

They took passage to Savannah (as Charleston "at that time being in the
throes of a sickly season". They left by state for Augusta, and then to the
home of Matthew Knight "which was about a hundred miles above Augusta on the
Savannah River.

The article goes on to tell of John Allan and his travels and education, and
states "In 1820 John Allan went to England to inquire into legacies left his
family by the death of his uncle, Thomas Knight." In 1821 he was a
Presbyterian Minister in Huntsville, AL.

I thought that should be of some interest to anyone researching a Matthew
Knight in GA, living about 100 miles above Augusta on the Savannah River.

God bless.
