I was recently driving through Kansas and was going to take the highway that goes through Greensburg. I visited there as a young girl and always thought it was such a neat little town. I thought if possible, I would at least gas up at the station that was operating to at least put a little money in the economy. I found out that the town is still closed to all but the local residents. You cannot get off the highway. They have had policemen coming in from all over the state to keep the non-locals out. You may want to see if you can contact someone locally to see if you can even make it to the cemetery.

Good luck!
Anita

Message Board Post:

As you know Greenburg was hit by a tornado May 4, 2007 and the town is basically gone. I image there was damage done to some of the cemeteries also.

This gentleman says Fairview Cemetery had little damage.

Cemetary
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The cemetary was undamaged by the tornado. I stopped by my mothers grave 2 weeks after the disaster and saw now damage except a couple of small tree limbs down.

It is very easy to get to the cemetary. You need to go North on Olive street, past the swimming pool park, over the train tracks, and it's just a couple of blocks further North on the left side. The entrance is on the South side, but I don't remember the street name at the moment (maybe Pensylvannia).

These are the only two of your surnames came up in Fairview Cemetery search. I suggest you register at FAG and request a marker photo for each of them. You can also add others and request marker photo for them also.

You've also had a couple responses on the Mailing List by kind folks who don't seem to understand how to answer queries from the Message Board.

You can view them at the Mailing List Archives.

I imagine you may be on your own at the cemetery. People are trying to rebuild and start their lives over again. Even if they had an excellent Cemetery Association, they may be having to deal with other problems in their lives at this time.
