You might want to look at the newspapers in Jewell County for the time of
the conviction and release and see what they have to say about this man. One
or both might list the number of children or give some family information.
The newspapers are available on interlibrary loan at no charge from the
Kansas State Historical Society. You might also find a listing for your
grandmother being born in the newspaper. Usually there aren't birth
announcements, but occasionally something in a community column ... "The
Jones have a new visitor at their home". Or perhaps, "A little one is
raising a ruckus at the Jones home"
You might also check with the KSHS and see if they have release or parole
information on him. They have some, but I am not sure of the time frame.
If you think the wife may have divorced him you might check Jewell County
District Court office for that.
You might also want to check the 1895 census for the family in Jewell
County.
Oh yes, you can borrow the state census on interlibrary loan through the
KSHS as well.
Good luck on your search!
