Old Newsboy Is Dead.
Veteran State Journal Newsie a Friend of All the Youngsters.
Louis Frank STARR, age 73, died late Friday afternoon at the Provident association, from pneumonia. STARR has been a family figure on the corner of Eighth and Kansas avenues for the last year and his voice was always heard above the roar of the traffic proclaiming to the world the latest news in the latest editions of the State Journal.
STARR was a man who was the treasured friend and companion of every newsboy on the streets of Topeka. Nothing was too great a task for hime to do when a newsie's happiness or well-being was at stake. STARR went to Kansas City some time ago thinking that the slight change in scene would have an improving effect on his health. He was sent back to Topeka about a week ago, stricken with pneumonia, was placed in the Provident association, and died.
STARR was delirious all thru his sickness, the principal obsession being that he was still engaged in peddling the evening's news to the passerby on the streets. In his delirium STARR mentioned the name of Harry STARR, of Zepa, Mo., as his son. STARR's body is being held in a local undertaking establishment pending word from this son, who was notified by telegram of his father's death.
