Thank you Nancy. I'm not hopeful that this is the same family. Nils, did not leave Sweden until September 10, 1889 and is
accounted for up to that time in the archives held in Lund, Sweden. That's why I did not check the 1880 census at LDS....they had
not come here until almost 10 years later.
There is a postcard from these folks mailed from La Harpe, KS to Nils' daughter, Maria (from his first marriage) in Sweden,
postmarked December 19, 1900 or 1901 (the last digit is curly-"q"'d with a tail so don't know if that was meant to be a zero or a
one). In that postcard, it states that they are standing in front of the home that they have lived in for 11 years which is about
the time the emigrated to America. I guess that would indicate that they pretty much headed to Kansas shortly after they hit
American soil. The birth years on the census below are way way off - a whole generation too early.
Can you or someone on the list check to see if there is an Alma Nelson in the 1900 census for La Harpe, KS? We are not sure but the
postcard is signed by Alma and addresses to sister-in-law and sent to this half-sister still in Sweden, that maybe this is the lady
that married August Nilsson/Nelson.
Any help to try to figure out where my relation was located in La Harpe or Savonburg Kansas is greatly appreciated.
