Does anyone have access to a disc for the 1870 census for Bourbon County
or is there such thing? I have been on ancestry.com this afternoon and
am finding 2 William Porters in Drywood Township (p. 383) and now wonder
what happened to the mother, Angeline Hall Porter. The two Williams
could possibly be my g-grandfather and his father. I wasn't aware that
they were in Bourbon County that early (but it is a possibility) and
wonder if there was another family of William Porters before they
arrived. If anyone could help me out, I would sure appreciate it.
Also, if anyone else is researching this family, I would love to hear
from you. William Porter was married to Martha Jane (Mattie) Proctor in
1889 in Fort Scott. William was born in Des Moines, Iowa in 1864 and
Martha Jane was born in Franklin County, Kansas about 1866. Their
children were: Delpha, Clyde, Ernest and Alpha. The Porters are
supposedely of Cherokee descent but they do not appear on the rolls. I
have been trying to get beyond my g-grandfather (William) for a long
time now. I know that his father's name was W.H. (probably William) and
mother Angeline Hall from information from the funeral home in Fort
Scott and from an obit. Delpha Porter was my grandmother and she
married Charles Atha in 1925 in Fort Scott. She was born about 1902 and
he was born in 1899. Charles and Delpha Porter Atha are both buried in
Clarksburg Cemetery in Bourbon County. Most of the Porters and Proctors
are buried at Lath Branch Cemetery also in Bourbon County.
Thanks.
Connie
