Steven J. Dent, 53, died Tuesday (July 31, 2001) at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born Dec. 8, 1947, in Newton and is survived by his mother, Nola Joyce Dent of Newton, and preceded in death by his father, Eugene Dent.

He attended The Timbers Chapel in Wichita. He was an avid reader and writer, composing several journals on personal triumphs and trials. He enjoyed reading history books, fishing and going to bingo. He enjoyed the time he spent with his family and had special bonds with his nieces and nephews.

Survivors include: three brothers, Dean Dent of McPherson, Kenny Dent of Halstead and Rodger Dent of Tacoma, Wash.; four sisters, Melanie Hanna, Aimee Metzler, Julie Seybert and JoAnn Ragon, all of Newton; and 13 nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by a niece, Stephanie Ragon.

Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Sadowski officiating.

Burial will be in Walton Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with the Steven Dent Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
