Subject: [KSJACKSO] Sanders W. McComas & Nancy Boydston (McPike) McComas

I finally solved a mystery and am posting it here for others to find.
The marriage of Sanders W. McComas and Nancy Boydston (McPike) was a
2nd marriage for both of them. Nancy had 1st married a Jesse McPike
and had one son with him: William H. McPike. Yet, when Nancy and
Sanders McComas moved into Jackson Co. KS this son was not with her
and is never enumerated with them, even though he was young. It's
always been a mystery to me. I solved it today. She left this son
behind with her parents to raise. He ends up dying in Johnson Co. KS
on 27 April 1877 and if anyone out there can access anything to tell
me what he was doing in Johnson Co. KS in 1877 I'd love to know.
Here's the info:
Sanders W. McComas was a brother of William Burke ‘Burk’ McComas who
married Laura’s sister Nancy Heath. During their time in Cabell Co VA
five of the Israel Heath children married five of the children of
Moses McComas. Laura Mary died in 1846, and her husband Sanders W.
McComas went on to marry 2nd in 1847 Nancy C. Boydston McPIKE in
Platte Co. MO. Nancy was the daughter of Thomas Boydston and
Elizabeth Gregg from TN. She was born 15 Oct 1813 in Cocke County,
TN. She had married first 28 Aug 1834 a Jesse McPike in Clay Co. MO
and had one child with him: William H. McPike born 12 Mar 1838 in
Buchanan Co. MO. Rev. Jacob Faubion performed Marriage, A/136
August 28, 1834 in Clay County, Missouri for: Jesse McPike and Nancy
C. Boydston. (The McPikes and Faubions were very interrelated by
marriages.) Her child, William H. McPike, from her first marriage
stayed behind and was raised by her father and mother, Thomas and
Elizabeth Boydston who were living in Platte Twp, Buchanan Co. MO.
His grandson William is enumerated in both the 1850 and 1860 census
for Buchanan County. In 1860 he is 21, living with a 79 yr old
grandfather and 70 year old grandmother. A William H. McPike served
two enlistments for the Confederacy during the Civil War: as a Lt. in
the 1st Regiment, Missouri Cavalry Company E which was formed in 1861
and captured at Vicksburg in 1863, and a 2nd enlistment in the 10th
Regiment, Missouri Cavalry, Company I as a Captain which was formed
in 1863 and was part of the surrender in June 1865.
William H. McPike went on to marry 3 Feb 1867 in Parkville, Platte
Co. MO. an Elvira ‘Elzie’Roberts b.ca. 1842 KY and in 1870 after the
war they were living and farming in Parkville City, Pettis Twp,
Platte County, MO and had one child: Elizabeth ‘Lizzie’ McPike born
ca. 1869 (named after William’s grandmother Elizabeth Boydston who
raised him). Elvira ‘Elzie’ (Roberts) McPike was the daughter of
George Roberts b. 1814 KY and his wife Elizabeth Harris b.ca. 1815
Madison Co. KY. William H. McPike died 27 April 1877 (about age 38)
in Spring Hill, Johnson Co. KS and is buried in Parkville, Platte Co.
MO. By 1880 Elzie McPike was living alone with her 11 yr old
daughter, still in Pettis Twp, but William H McPike is not there. On
20 Nov 1881 Elvira ‘Elzie’ McPike remarried ain Parkville, Platte Co.
MO, a William J. Fulton, b. 10Nov 1832 NJ who was 67 yrs old when she
was 46 and she still had 27 yr old Elizabeth with her. By 1910 Elzie
(McPike) Fulton was still in Pettis Twp, widowed and now 73. Her
daughter Elizabeth was not with her.
