Obituary
Nicholas SLOOP died Friday, August 14, 1903
Nicholas SLOOP was born in Waltweill, Switzerland, Jan.1, 1837 and came to this country with his parents at an early age. He lived in Pennsylvania quite a number of years but came to Kansas over thirty years ago and settled on the farm where he died. Mr. and Mrs. SLOOP were the parents of thirteen children, twelve of whom were living at the time of his death, seven boys and five girls, all of whom were with him at the time of his death, except Mrs. Frank ZIEGLER who left for her home in Oklahoma a few days before the end came. Mr. SLOOP died early Friday morning. FUneral services were held last Saturday morning at the U. P. church, Rev. WRIGHT a former pastor of the U. P. church here, preached the funeral sermon. Interment was in the Nortonville cemetery. A large congregation was in attendance at the funeral, the church was filled.
He was converted before he left his native land and always remained faithful to Christ. In his death the church, the home and the state has sustained a great loss. One, whose generosity and devotion endeared him to all, and whose wise counsel and active assistance rendered him a scource of inspiration and strength to Christ's cause. Deprived of his living presence and help we are conscious that the sweet fragrance of his life continues with us in its influence while the transplanted flower blossoms in the home beyond.
Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord, from henceforth yea saith the Spirit they may rest from their labors and their works do follow them.
