Obituary.
Wiley James JONES was born in McLouth, Kans., Feb. 27, 1887, and died in the same place April 27th, 1904, aged 17 years, 2 months and 10 days. He has always lived with his parents at this place. He was converted Feb. 24, 1904, and gave to those present at his bedside satisfactory evidence of this change. It was God's way and may have been the only way open for him to the Celestial City. He has left a father, mother and brother who expect one day to meet him in the New Jeruselem.
The Alpha Omega Society of which he was a member gave a beautiful wreath of white rose buds and white carnations. "The E.O.H.O. Club," of which he was a member presented a beautiful boquet of white roses and ferns as a last token of respect. The tribute of the Eastern Star ws pink carnations and white flowers. The Ladies of the Baptist Society sent calla lillies and ferns. A handsome boquet was presented by Mr. HOSKINS, his beloved teacher. Flowers in profusion were sent by relatives and friends whose names we did not learn. The High School students lined the grave with muslin, decorated with flowers and evergreens. Surely it was a fit resting place for one so young just entering the bloom of manhood, with life so full of budding promises. He had almost finished the High School and expected to enter the University at Lawrence in the fall. He was secretary and treasurer of the Baptist Sunday School for the past eighteen months. The pall bearers, James DICK,Tinsley STEEPER, Ozro GOULD, Edgar STALLARD, Eric STEEPER and Prentice RICE were schoolmates and friends from early childhood and with heavy hearts they carried their beloved companion to his last resting place on earth. Some relatives liveing at St. Joe and De Kalb, Mo., did not receive the news in time to be present. Among the ones who attended from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. CHEATWOOD, his grandparents, Mr. CHEATWOOD's twin brother, James and Inez CHEATWOOD. Mrs. JONES' brother, Richard CHEATWOOD and wife from Fairmount. Mrs. Jones' twin sisters, Mrs. Cora NEUDEC and Mrs. Dora SHELDERS, Elza RICE, from Kansas City, Dr. WILEY JONES, wife and sone from Huron. The High School students wore their colors, blue and orange with addition of carpe; and furnished the music. Rev. G.D. STALLARD assisted by Rev. McAFERTY of the U.B. chruch, preached the funeral sermon in the Baptist church Friday afternoon, April 29. THe High School students headed by the High School teachers, mr. HOSKINS and Miss SHELDON, marched to the cemetery in a body, carrying the flowers tastefully arranged on a wheel. After them The Eastern Star, and a large procession of friends and relatives followed the remains to the family lot in the McLouth cemetery.
Dr. and Mrs. JONES wish to tank their many friends, who offered their kind assistance and heartfelt sympathy in this, the saddest affliction of their lives. The sympathy is indeed appreciated, but it does not satisfy the heartache, or fill the vacant place in their home.
In Memoriam.
We miss our friend and comrade
>From the ranks of the M.H.S.
But we know the time must come
When we'll leave this world of sorrow
And journey to our home.
With sincere sympathy from the Alpha Omega Society of the McLouth High School.
