Obituary: Marsh.
The sudden death of Mrs. Mathew C. MARSH, after an illness of only week, on Monday morning, was a shock to the community. Few knew that she was ill. The cause of her death was pneumonia.
Nellie Nelson WITHERS, third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.B. WITHERS of this city, was born in Walkersville, Frederick county, Maryland, July 19, 1875, and died at Valley Falls, Kansas, January 4, 1915, aged 39 years, 5 months and 15 days.
With her parents she came to Kansas in April 1888, locating on a farm near Valley Falls, which has since been her home town and where she attended the city schools.
On June 26, 1901, Nellie was married to Mathew C. MARSH, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert MARSH of Valley Falls.
Looking at the group picture of his parents Golden Wedding, taken two short months ago, no one would point out Nellie as the first to be called away. Truly we know not the hour.
To this happy union of Nellie and Mat were born four dear little children, Charles Buckey, Robert Nelson, Althea and William Raymond, who with the sorrowing father, survive.
She is survived by her parents, and her brothers and sisters, A.L. WITHERS of Leavenworth, Fanny T. and Birdie V., and W.Wade WITHERS of Valley Falls and Raymond WITHERS of Bakersfield, California. One brother, Charles Lee, died at Valley Falls, March 15, 1893.
>From the Congregational church of which church she was a faithful member and where her children attended Sunday school the funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, her pastor, Rev. A.L. WOOD, of the Federated church conducting the services, in the presence of many friends.
The burial was in the WITHERS family lot in Rose Hill cemetery by the side of her brother, Lee.
The bereaved families have the sympathy of many friends.
