Miss Ruth SHELDON, who was appointed as office deputy in the County Clerk's office at the last meeting of the Board, has been busy the past week making out the list of mortgages preparatory to the starting of work by the deputy assessors next month. The first of the coming month will be a busy time in the County Clerk's office with the County Board meeting and the deputy assessors being on hand to received their instructions and supplies.
A riot call was sent to the sheriff's office last Wednesday afternoon and Sheriff O'BRIEN and City Marshal BRINER being the only reserves on duty at the time rushed to the scene of combat--the JACKSON home. They were greeted by shrieking women on the front porch and within the house found the cause of the disturbance--Dub KIRKPATRICK and wife--amid broken mirrors, glassware and window panes. The male portion of the disturbance was attired in undershirt and the drawers only while the Missus was making a speech. The innocent bystanders present siad the woman was threatening to cut her husband's throat with a butcher knife, while he stated he was on his was to the well where he intended drowning himself. They were both arrested and taken to the county jail. On the way uptown Dub stated they had no doubt had too much whiskey. To which the officers unanimously agreed.
