"Grandma" LEECH, of McLouth, is staying here with her son, W.F. LEECH, while A. McLOUTH and wife are taking their trip to Mexico.

Mrs. SMURR of Topeka is here this week in attendance at the sick-bed of her brother, Lucian HARRIS, who is very low with consumption.

It is told on Frank SHANE that he is unable to east three dishes of oysters at one setting. If he fails to receive the appointment as grain inspector he can blame it all to this fact.

Uniform Rank Elects Officers.
After the adjournment of the K.P. lodge Wednesday night the members of the Uniform Rank met and elected the following officers;

The Rank is in first class condition, don't owe a dollar and has money in the treasury. New officers will be installed about the 22nd of February, and a banquet served to the members of the Rank and their families and also those of the subordinate lodge who are in good standing.

Serious Accident.
C.E. BURKE wa up from Perry, Saturday and tells us of a serious accident which befell D.T. MITCHELL, an old citizen of that place.
The Rock Island train was taking water there Thursday and Mitchell started down the track, as was his custom to go home. The train started on, and just at Mitchell stepped off the track his foot caught in the "frog" of the switch, and before he could extricate himself the train struck him. He was knocked down, his right foot and left hand were cut off, his right leg broken and his head badly bruised. The switch had to be "thrown" before his foot could be taken from between the rails.
At that time, Saturday, the patient was by no means out of danger, although the doctors thought the chances were in favor of his recovery.
