Navy Cross to Maj. Frank N. Roberts.
Maj. Frank N. ROBERTS, Tuesday received the Navy Cross for his rescue work at the time of the U. S. S. Panay bombing in China in 1937. The presentation was made at Fort Francis E. Warren, Cheyenne, Wyo., by Maj. Gen. George Strong. The cross has been awarded to only a few Army men. Its award to Major Roberts was approved by Congress and President Roosevelt. Major Roberts, a native of Oskaloosa, enlisted in 1916 as a private. He is a son of Frank Roberts, editor of the Oskaloosa Independent.
