The Valley Falls New Era
Thursday
October 21, 1909

Denison.

Mr. LOGAN of Michigan but formerly of Winchester visited Renneck STEWART last week.

Dr. DARLINGTON and M.W. BOYLES, went to Valley Falls Monday evening to attend a banquet

The sad news was received Monday evening of the death of Bird DOUGLAS and John RAY who were killed by a threshing engine going through a bridge on the Licklyter bridge over in the Mayetta neighborhood.

Mrs. Lydia B. MANGOLD and son Harry W. arrived Monday evening for a visit with her parents Mr. and Mrs. WERTS.

A private railroad crossing near the home of Isaac FERRELL was the scene Thursday noon of what might have been a serious train wreck. George and Issac FERRELL were engineering a sulky plow across the track just ahead of the noon train which was coming on time as usual. Isaac had gone ahead to open the gate and Geroge who was on the plow got caught on the track and was thrown off and had his leg crushed, the plow was demolished and a horse injured so it was afterward killed. The train as stopped as soon as possible and at the suggestion of relatives the injured man was brought to Denison where his leg was amputated just below the knee Friday evening by Dr. REYNOLDS of Holton, assisted by doctors here. He is getting along nicely and will probably be up and around in a few weeks.

Noel COLEMAN and the ARTMAN boys came in town Saturday morning with about twenty muskrats which they caught in traps the night before.

John POPE bought the Chas. WOODS farm last week formerly owned by Robt. McCRORY and later by A.D. WALKER the consideration was $80 per acre.
