In The Service.
Still Buddies.
More than a hundred young men from Jefferson county have taken their physicals at Leavenworth in the last five days. Among them were Leland HUDDLESTON, John HOSKINSON and Don METZGER. This trio started their school days together on a Monday morning in September 1925, graduated from the same platform at Oskaloosa High in May 1937; took the same bus yesterday morning to Ft. Leavenworth and returned same evening reporting they had passed the examinations. They are now subject to call for induction, presumably within 30 days.
Walter (Bud) RATLIFF, "made the grade" on his physical at Ft. Leavenworth and expects to be called into service about Feb. 24.
Others who passed the exams this week from this vicinity were Kenneth GRAMSE, Charles EDMONDS, of McLouth, and Owen MEREDITH of Ozawkie.
Ralph PERRY of Oskaloosa who completed his college course at K.S.C., at close of first semester has applied for a job in defense work and is momentarily awaiting a call.
Randal HARBOUR, a former student of Oskie High, is stationed at an airport in Texas, has had about a year's aviation training.
Ivan (Tine) ANDERSON a former Oskaloosa boy is Navigator on a torpedo boat. Tine has been in the Navy for about 18 months.
Keith McCOY who reported for duty at the Navy Base at San Diego, Calif., in December is now on duty in Pearl Harbour. Keith is the son of Mrs. Marguerite McCOY of Topeka.
Walter WHITMAN, brother of Mrs. Walter BOYD, has gone to army camp at Abilene, Texas.
Rosewel ZOOK is taking the eight week training course at Camp Wolters, Tex.
