An Eighth Air Force Bomber Station, England--First Lieutenant William A. WEBBER, husband of Mrs. Phyllis WEBBER, of 2207 West 7th Street, Topeka, Kansas, has been awarded the Air Medal, it was recently announced by the commanding officer of this Flying Fortress base.
The citation accompanying the decoration read in part: "For meritorious achievement while serving as pilot of a B-17 Flying Fortress during combat bombing attacks over Naxi Europe."
Lt. Webber, a veteran of numerous heavy bombardment assaults with the pioneer 379th Bomb Group, took part in the recent missions against vitally important targets in Cologne, Galsenkirchen, Aachen and other tactical objectives in France and Holland.
He entered the Army Air Forces as an aviation cadet in September, 1942, receiving preliminary training at Santa Ana, California, Dos Palos, California, and other AAF bases. He graduated from the LaJunta, Colorado, Army Air Field, where he was commissioned a second lieutenant and won his wings as a pilot.
Prior to joining the service Lt. Webber was employed as a public accountant with the firm of Brelsford, Gifford and Jones. A former Washburn college student, he is member of Kappa Signa Fraternity.
