Bertha Velma WHITE was born at Napton, Mo., April 22, 1902, the second child of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac WHITE. She moved in childhood with her mother to Bonner Springs, Kansas, where she grew to womanhood.
She was united in marriage in 1919 to Andrew ERBY of Kansas City, Mo., and to this union a daughter was born. They were divored in 1921 and Bertha took employment on the post at Ft. Leavenworth.
In 1937 she was married to J.Burnett JONES, at the that time stationed at Ft. Leavenworth, who later became a sergeant in the army and was afterward discharged for physical disabilities and they came to Oskaloosa to make their home in 1943.
Bertha found the Lord when she was young, became an active member of the spiritual church and upon coming to Oskaloosa joined the St. Pauls A.M.E. church and lived true to the faith until death.
Bertha was a truly understanding wife and mother, in health a loving person, in sickness a patient and faithful one, taking her disabilities with patience and fighting heroically the losing battle of life. Her last statement to her mother-in-law, "I am feeling very well, mother." and a moment later passed in her devoted husband's arms.
She is survived by her husband, J.B. JONES, the daughter, Mrs. Nadine TERRY of Leavenworth, her mtoher, Mrs. Juanita HENDERSON, Kansas City, Mo., three brothers and four sisters, all of Kansas City, and a host of other relatives and friends.
We wish to express our appreciation of the kindly assistance of friends and neighbors during the illness and death of our loved one, of all those who assisted at the funeral service, and for the lovely words of sympathy and floral tokens.
J.B. Jones and family.
