Florence Aletha CRONEMEYER, died at her home in this city of heart affection, on Monday evening, July 15, 1907, aged 21 years, 11 months, and 9 days. In May 1903 she united with the Church of Christ at Lawrence, Kansas, in which she remained faithful until death claimed her. She was a loving sister and a true friend and all who knew her loved her. In disposition she was kind and cheerful. From early childhood she had a religious inclination and always loved the Bible and any good works. Her thoughts were of the true and beautiful.
"Flossie," as she was familiarly known, had been seriously ill for two weeks and the skill of competent physicians and loving offices of relatives and kind friends availed not to avert the sad end.
Her funeral was conducted by Rev. Sellers of this city, and Rev. Milton, her pastor, of the Lawrence church in Tonganoxie, Kansas, at the first Christian church which at one time was her home. The services were concluded by the McLouth Rebekah Lodge of which she was a charter member, and was honored and loved having held several responsible offices and at the time of her death was the leader of the Degree Staff. She will be missed and her place will be hard to fill for she was one of the few who have the ability to officiate in several places. She always filled two distinct places each time the degree was exemplified.
She was loved by all in the order for her unselfish devotion to their personal welfare.
The altar was one mass of flowers sent by devoted friends and the casket was literally covered by emblems pertaining to the order to which she belonged. Among them were the three links with the anchor composed of the colors of the order, the other one-a broken wheel- was presented by the degree staff. The Woodmen also sent a beautiful wreath.
The ministers spoke both feelingly and at times eloquently of the life and character of the dear departed, the vast audience was moved to tears all during the services.
The pall bearers composed of six of her girl friends who were all taken from the order except Leah HARDING. The others were Bessie CAVE, Maude WILLIAMS, Maggie SACRAY, Felicia JONES, and Letitia ZABRISKIE, and with heavy hearts they carried their beloved companion to her last resting place on earth.
Florence was a beautiful character and her religion was of the sincere, unostentatious kind and thro' all her sufferings she bore pain with fortitude and often spoke of the bright home beyond, where all could go if they would only be good and not say bad things. She said to her parents," do not grieve for me, for God's will be done." The songs sung at the services ascended to ears immortal around the great white throne, near which her now disembodied soul joins in praises with those already set free, and where she has become a soldier in the church triumphant marshaled upon the plains of the new Jerusalem.
May the flowers of Spring bloom o'er her grave and the daylight gleams of each setting sun smile gently over her from the west.
