Does anyone have more on the story of a Mr. Montegu (sp?) who lived near Newman, KS, around 1924? Was drunk one day and tried to kill his wife with a shotgun, but hit her sister by mistake. Realized his error, and then shot his wife. After both women were dead, he supposedly wrote "Blame The Priest" on the wall in blood and then shot himself. Only blew off part of his face, and survived to stand trial and life in jail. He sold his home and spent everything on the huge "Christ on the Cross" bronze statue still standing over the two womens graves in Newman Cemetery. Story told to me by my mother-in-law who was a child living nearby. Hoping to find a newspaper article on what must have been a big story.
