Hello,
Please tell me about your Thompson Lineage. My mothers name was Thompson, born in Mankato and died in Republic County. My Grandfather and Great grandfather homesteaded in Northeast Jewell County in Washington Township. Names were Alexander Farmer (Eck) and Charles Thompson. Came to Kansas in 1875 via covered wagon from Indiana.

Message Board Post:
I recently located a half-sister of my greatgrandfather in the 1900 census (Highland Township) and am very curious what would have possessed two Norwegians to move from a very Scandinavian-based and family-based culture back in Wisconsin and Minnesota to Jewell County. The names of Mankato, Minneapolis, and Scandia (in Jewell and county east of Jewell) do suggest that this may have been a mass migration due to new homestead lands opening up. Is there a resource on the Net or a book I can interlibrary-loan that would tell about this?
