Subject: [KY-7THINF] Special Project

Hi Everyone,

Before I get into the Special Project that I've been working on, I'd
like to mention that I finally met one of my partner's in
crime.....<grin>

Scott Gardner was able to finally make it to D.C. over the weekend. It
was really nice to be able to perform research with someone else for a
change. I really enjoyed the time we spent researching the records at
NARA and what little sight seeing we were able to get in while he was
here. Scott, I hope you had a safe trip home and I didn't wear you out
too much walking around Arlington Cemetery.......<grin> Don't be a
stranger and stay away too long. Definitely looking forward to you
coming back for a visit.

Speaking of Arlington Cemetery, for those of you who are more up to date
on your Generals. Over the weekend, Scott and I did discover, that
HAZEN and BAIRD are buried at Arlington Cemetery. Just FYI.

Now, for the Special Project...................

This summer I have been working on an idea I have had for some time
now. The idea being to make pension and service records available on
CD. This idea is no longer a figment of my imagination, but is now
becoming a reality. With the help of my husband, we have figured out
how to scan the original documents directly into Adobe and making them
available on CD. The records would be available on CD in Adobe format
with the CD also containing the Adobe viewer. Those of you who are
familiar with Adobe know that you will be able to print and view the
documents from the CD as well as manipulate the document to zoom in on
areas that are hard to read. Up until now, I have been experimenting
with copies of the records that I have in my files. By mid to late
September, I will be performing tests using the original documents at
NARA. What I'm looking for is 5 people to volunteer their ancestor to
be used as guinnea pigs for testing purposes. There is no cost involved
for volunteering and at the end of the testing you will receive a copy
of the CD containing your ancestor's pension and service record, if
everything goes well. At the current time, this offer is only being
extended to this list. Only one ancestor per person who volunteers and
on a first come first serve basis. If you have any questions, please
feel free to contact me.

Also, would definitely like to hear some feedback on this Special
Project. If you have any comments or suggestions, please feel free to
contact me.

Beth
