I am researching african american ancestors in Boone County KY. My
great-grandmother, Alice Sheets, was born a slave in Boone County near the
town of Rabbit Hash on the Ohio River. According to family oral history,
she escaped from slavery as a young girl. I recently found online in early
Kentucky birth records, that she was born in 1856 and her owner was Andrew
Sheets. Alice was married twice - to Stepp Gordon and Jacob Marshall, both
of whom were also born in Boone County. I don't know if her husbands were
slaves.

I would appreciate any information on how to search for records of Andrew
Sheets or other slaveowners in Boone County.
