Mona, Glad I could help. Since censuses before 1850 did not list individuals, I wouldn't know how to find John's parents. If you think it is likely that John died in Johnson County, you might contact the county offices asking for a death certificate, but they would have to do an extensive search between 1860 and 1870, which would probably be costly. We can assume John was alive around 1864, by the age of the youngest child. You might find a volunteer on RootsWeb. You also might put a message on the message board, asking for information, or maybe someone has a family Bible. My maiden name is Jones, from Montana, and someone found my gggrandfather's Bible, put it on ebay, and I now have it, I'm thrilled to say. Never give up, just keep digging.

I'm busy today, but later I'll look at the 1850 census again, and check several pages in both directions from where I found John and family, to see if there are other Carvers living close. Back then, families often stayed close to each other.

I don't have your original request on my computer any longer, but do you have Keziah's maiden name. Could be her family lived close to John's.

I'll stay in touch. Where are you located - anywhere close to the family starting point?
Barb
