Subject: [KY-COALMINERS] COAL FROM KY/Welcome Mr: Hobert

Mr: Hobert
I forwarded your letter to the KY Coal Miners mailing list and forwarded
all the replies to you. I added you to our mailing list and now you can write
letters to the mailing list directly. It is a pleasure to converse with you.
My dad was a coal miner at Brookside, KY and my grandfather at the Verda
Mines. I am admin. of the mailing list and also do the KY Coal Miners web
site. Please help us with the page if you have time such as names and dates
of employees who worked at the mines when you were there. There are no
official records and we depend on miners like your self to help us keep the
coal miner and what he did for this country, remembered and their place in
history preserved. May we never let anyone forget what our dads, brothers and
grandfathers did in the deep dark tunnels of darkness. To carve out a meager
living for their families, many times families going to bed hungry. Miners
who lost the battle to Black Lung and were never rewarded for the pain and
suffering they endured. The fatal accidents that should have been prevented.
Coal operators, company housing, company stores and company doctors. In all
reality, miners did owe their soul to the company store. We are proud to be
wife's, sons and daughters of a coal miner that has never been recognized as
the backbone of this great nation. May their eternal light forever shine in
the hearts of all who knew and loved them. Welcome to our list Mr. Hobert and
may your wisdom and knowledge help us preserve the memories of those coal
miners that you met on your life's journey.

Thanks Elva
