The last will and testament of Rane Staton of the County of
Cumberland
and State of Kentucky.
I Rane staton, considering the uncertainty of this mortal life, and
being of sound memory do make and publish this my last will and
testament
in manner following:
I will that all my debts, as shall by me be owing at my death
together
with my funeral expenses and all charges touching the proveing of as
otherwise concerning this my Will, Shall be in the first place out of
my
personal estate and effects be fully paid and Satisfied. Item 1st:
I
give to my daughter Snell one negroman named Robin, as also one female
negro named Mary.
Item 2nd: I give to my son, Hiram A. Staton one male slave named
Solomon, two hundred and six acres of land lying on the south side of
the
Cumberland River, situate in the Irish Bottom, it being the farm
whereon
now live, also fifty acres of land, on the North side of Said,
Cumberland
River, situate, on the mine branch.
Item 3rd: I give to my son William Staton one Negro slave named John,
also one female Slave named Louisa; I also Give to the said William
Staton; all of the tracts of land I own on Willis Creek, supposed to
contain 300 acres.
Item 4th: I give unto my son James Staton one hundred and twenty
dollars in his own note executed to me in April 1841 for two hundred
and
twenty dollars ,and the balance of Said Note of one hundred dollars, I
guveto my daughter in law Fanny Staton.
Item 5th: My Will is that the residue of my goods, Stock, chattles,
and
household furniture shall be indifferently appraised, and after such
appraisement made, that the Same Shall be divided into three equal
parts,
one equal third part I give and bequesth to my daughter Nancy Sewell,
and
the other two thirds I give to be equally divided among my two Sons,
Hiram and William.
And I make and Ordain Hiram Staton and Joseph Snell Executors of this
my
last Will and Testament.

Cumberland County Vol. D.
I William King, Clerk of the County Court of said County do Certify
that
I have truly recorded the Within Decree and the Copy of Rane Staton
Decds
Will marked A. In my said office on Will book D pages 2152.
Witness my hand this 2nd day of Dec. 1843

hand-written will. Note: Apparently Nancy Snell Staton Philpott
Sewell
was named for one of Ranes executors, Joseph Snell
