Subject: [KYBATH-L] Delayed Birth Certificates
Date: Sun, 4 Apr 1999 11:27:25 -0400
While we're on the subject, I was researching the microfilm files at the
Kentucky Historical Society in Frankfort and came across a set of "delayed
birth certificate applications". These are birth certificate application
forms submitted from persons attempting to obtain a birth certificate who,
typically, were born before 1911. Hence the word "delayed". I was
flabbergasted to find my grandparent's forms, filled out which included
genealogical information about my great grandparents and signed by my great
grandfather. Gee, I filled out the appropriate paper-work and sent them to
the Office of Vital Statistics -- send me a copy of my grandparent's birth
certificates! Their response was "there is no record of birth". After
several more attempts corresponding with the Office of Vital Statistics I've
personally concluded that the set of applications on microfilm at KHS were
applications which for some reason or another deemed "in error" and
eventually got pitched. Fortunately, some were microfilmed!
