Fellow Listers:
I agree about the lack of care shown the old documents at the court house.
I just spoke with my cousin who does live in Bath Co. She feels it is a
combination of several things --indifference, no training on the part of
court house clerk's staff in proper preservation and MONEY. She
recommended we write a "group email" to Carol Belcher, the state
representative for the county and express our concerns about the condition
of historical documents and the lack of proper preservation attempts.
She also mentioned that the LDS church came into Bath county many years ago
to film the then existing records and were allowed to do so. The church
then gave complimentary copies of all that they had filmed to the clerk and
that these films were simply thrown away - for whatever reason!
So, I suggest that we, as a group, lobby the appropriate political entities
to save the records of Bath county!
Jackie
