To those considering a trip to Bath Co.
perhaps the following I recently sent to Judy Shaw, who was planning a
visit, would be of interest:
>Hi Judy,
>
>had a good trip. I spent much time in Owingsville at Bath Co. library and
>the court house across the street from the library. the library has a
>genealogy section and the librarians are helpful. the court house is under
>renovation and the clerks are busy so for the most part I was on my own
>looking thru old records. did find most of what I was looking for. They
>say it gets more crowded with researchers in the summer so you'll probably
>have someone there to help you get started. both places are a store house
>of info that has not been fully sorted, indexed, and cataloged.
>
>I stayed at the Trimble House in Mt. Sterling. It is a bed and breakfast
>and was great. highly recommended... reasonable cost and the breakfasts
>were superb. You can find it on the web. can look up number if you cannot
>find. found food at the Cracker Barrel best in town but crowded in the
>evening.
>
>specific records in the library... wow.. a whole bunch.
>most interesting were the locked cabinets.. found the original estate
>settlement of 1823 for my ggg grandfather.
>
>those in the court house... wills, estate settlements, marriage licenses,
>etc.
>
>I spent 2 full days and could have spent more time.
