I'm serious. If I can be assured that the project is being managed
by a qualified preservationist and not just a group of well-meaning
amateurs, and if I can get some accounting of the costs so that I
know where my money is going, I would be willing to underwrite the
effort up to $50,000.
This would be only to preserve the UNBOUND papers, the ones that
are in bundles and boxes. I am satisfied enough with the state of
the bound books that I would not care to fund putting the pages of
the older books inside of archival sleeves, like Montgomery Co did.
It would also be acceptable to me if some of the money were used to
scan the same documents onto CD.

This is my own money. I have over 19,000 shares of Adobe stock, most
of it being what is left of the initial grant that I got when I was
hired in 1987, when our stock was selling for the equivalent of $2
(it was $16, but it has split three times since then. Each time it
splits the number of shares doubles and the price per share halves.)
Take a look at this graph to see why I can afford to make this offer:

If a 501(3)c tax-exempt organization is handling the project, I could
probably get matching funds from Adobe, though. Adobe does have a
matching funds program for employee donations to educational and
charitable organizations, and John Warnock is VERY interested in
preservation of historical documents. (He focuses on manuscripts of
much greater fame than simple county records, but even so I'm sure
he'd be sympathetic to our cause.)
