This might be the same man in the 1870 census:

1870 > Missouri > MONTGOMERY > PRAIRIE TWP
(Danville P. O.)

Series: M593 Roll: 794 Page: 97 (census taken
Sept. 1870)

RAY JAMES 51 M W KY MO MONTGOMERY CO.
PRAIRIE TWP 1870

He was 51, b KY, keeping a public house, with
Nancy 50, Ezra 28 laborer, Silas 21, Fountain 13,
George 11, Charles 7, and Leroy 4, all males, all
b MO, plus 6 men who seem to be boarders.

Of course, his is a common name, but this is the
only one I found in either 1860, 1870 or 1880
that met your specs.
