"The Daily Pantagraph, Bloomington, Mclean, Illinois
14 January 1910
Mrs. Gideon Sorrel died yesterday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Joseph's
after an illiness of about two months with dropsy. The deceased was the wife
of Gideon Sorrel, one of the well known laboring men of the city who with
his wife came here about eight years ago from Kentucky. There are no
children. The deceased was 65 years of age."
(Additional from James L. Sorrell III: This is the obituary for Joann (aka
Josie Ann) TAPP RICHARDSON SORRELL. Using the name "Mrs. Jo A. RICHARDSON"
she married Gideon SORRELL, from Bath County, on 19 Mar 1874 in Montgomery
County Kentucky. According to my research this marriage is the first
recorded marriage involving a SORRELL in this county. In the 1880 Mount
Sterling, Montgomery, Kentucky census, enunerated in the Gideon and Josie
SORRELL household is Josie's mother Mary TAPP. Hence Josie's maiden name of
TAPP. Josie's death certificate does not name her parents. Josie is buried
alongside Gideon SORRELL in the Old City Section 5 Row 9 of Evergreen
Cemetery, Bloomington, McLean, Illinois. If anyone has additional or more
accurate information on Josie let me know.)
