KINGSPORT, Tenn. — VIOLA GREEN BURDINE, 79, passed away Sunday, June 16,
2002, at Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport. A native of Bell County, she
was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Cawood) Green. She was a graduate
of Middlesboro High School, and a member of Cannon Creek Primitive Baptist
Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
H.T. “Hershey” Burdine; brothers, Clarence “Bo,” Ed, Oscar, Virgil, Arch,
and Walter Green; sisters, Laura Beason, Verda Rainey, Myrtle Rainey, and
Martha Jane Green. Survivors include her children, Hilda Long, Sandy Barrett,
and Johnny Burdine, all of Kingsport; nine grandchildren and several
great-grandchildren; brothers, Charlie Greene, Middlesboro, and Johnnie
Greene, Harrogate, Tenn.; one sister, Ethel Duncan, Kingsport; and a host of
nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday at
Oak Hill Funeral Home with her nephew, Elder Steve Greene officiating. Burial
will Thursday at Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her nephews.
Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill Funeral Home, Kingsport,
Tenn., which is in charge of arrangements.
