Yes, it is rather expensive. That is why I feel that those who are in a
position to help others need to do it without any fees attached. For me it is
not a matter of whether or not I am related, it is simply that the person made a
public posting on a Message Board or a Mail List and I have the belief I can
provide some help. I prefer public postings because then the information will
be there in the future to help someone else.
There are many others who do the very same thing I do. People help in all
sorts of ways as they are able and as their time permits. Everyone has
different family budget concerns from those on limited fixed incomes to those raising
families or helping to raise their grandchildren to those like myself who
are now retired and who have no children. All sorts of situations exist.
What is important is we do all we can to keep genealogy free or as free as we can
and we can only do that with the everyone's help . Then no one is left out.
