My cousin gave me copies of the obituaries she cut out of the papers back in
1985. She wasn't sure if they were from the Troublesome Times or the
Mountain Eagle. I have started to transcribe them, and thought I'd share
them since some many of you have shared so much that has been helpful to me.
I'll keep at them, a few a day until I'm finished.

Amburgey Obits





Causetta "Corb" Amburgey



Causetta "Corb" Amburgey, 91 of Mousie, Ky., died Saturday, Dec. 14, at
the Knott County Health Care Center, Hindman. She was born Oct. 23, 1894,
the daughter of the late Riley and Helen Nickles Casebolt.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother; her husband, Alex
Amburgey; and a son, James R. Amburgey.

Causetta is survived by one daughter, Nancy L. Amburgey of Flemmingsburg;
seven sons, Edward A. of Ashland, Bill of Prestonsburg, Homer B. of
Morehead, Lawrence M. of Newport News, Va., Shelley R. of New Madison, Ohio,
and Irvin and Clyde O., both of Lima, Ohio; one sister, Margaret C. Slone of
Dema; one brother, Austin Casebolt of Prestonsburg; a host of grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.

The funeral service for Causetta "Corb" Amburgey was held Tuesday, Dec.
17, at 11 a.m. at the Knott Funeral Home Chapel, Hindman. The clergymen
were Rev. Bert Howard, Rev. Coy Combs, Rev. J.S. Bell and Rev. Archie Combs.
The pallbearers were her grandsons. Burial was in the Amburgey Family
Cemetery, Mousie.

John D. Amburgey



John D. Amburgey, age 67, of Redfox, Ky., died at Hazard ARH Feb 22, 1985.
He was born Dec. 10, 1917, the son of Maryland Amburgey and Martha Smith.
He was a member of the DAV and a Retired Army Veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Cora; one son, Alonzo of Lexington; five
daughters, Lawanna Jane Thornsberry of Redfox, Johnnie Dale Wright of Isom,
Martha Lynn Amburgey of Washington, D.C., Betty Lou Thornsberry of Raven,
Mona Wakesha Sammons of Jeremiah; one brother, Israel Amburgey of LaGrange;
two sisters, Nettie Watts of Carr Creek, Pearl Eversole of Hindman; four
grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Feb. 24, at 11 a.m. at Old Carr
Regular Baptist church with Old Regular Baptist Ministers Arlie Combs,
Orville Mullins, Claren Williams, Ronnie Combs, Alonzo Watts officiating.
Burial followed in Greasy Graveyard, Eldred Vance Cemetery, Pinetop.
Hindman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.





Arnon Amburgey



Arnon Amburgey, age 78, of Littcarr, Ky., died Feb. 4, 1985 at Hazard
A.R.H., Hazard. He was born March 10, 1906, son of Jasper Amburgey and
Nancy Ann Stacy. He was a member of Vicco Masonic Lodge No. 992.

He is survived by two sisters, Eva Bolen of Quicksand and Issie Watts of
Garner.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Feb. 7, at 11 a.m. at the Little
Dove Reg. Baptist Church, Sassafras, with Reverends John Preece, I.D. Back,
Ivan Amburgey and Milburn Slone officiating. Burial followed in the Jasper
Amburgey Cemetery, Littcarr. Hindman Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
