Dear Bourbon Co. List Members,
Let me introduce myself, I'm new to this list, my name is Bill Morrow my
ggggreat-grandfather was James MORROW b 1741 Lancaster County, PA, d
10-15-1800 in Clark County, KY. James married, 1771 to Elizabeth Frame b
7-2-1749 of Augusta, VA, d 10-10-1814 in Clark County, KY.
James & Elizabeth Morrow left VA in 1775 for KY, it is not clear at this
point, as to their path. Weather they came across the Wilderness Road or by
flatboat down the Ohio. We do know they arrived at Lexington in the spring of
1778. James Morrow's deposition is on record in Clark Co. He helped build the
fort and blockhouse at Lexington. James also fought with George Rogers Clark
against the Shawnee on at least three occasions and was one of many that went
up into Ohio with Gen. Clark in 1782.
In the spring of 1783, James & Elizabeth and their children moved to Bourbon
County in the area of Lower Howards Creek. James Morrow had received a Land
Grant of 400 acres from Virginia. They had the following nine children:
1. William Morrow b 1774 d 1823 in Bullitt Co. KY
married 10-14-1796 Nancy FIELD in Bourbon Co. daughter of Capt. John B. Field
of Bourbon Co. KY
2. Jane Morrow b ?
married 8-2-1795 James BROWNING in Bourbon Co.
3. Col. Robert Morrow b ?
married 2-6-1797 Peggy TRIMBLE in Clark Co. KY, fought in the War of 1812,
lived and died in Montgomery Co. KY
4. John Morrow b ?
married 10-20-1802 Polly HALSEL in Clark Co. KY
5. Polly Morrow b ?
married 1-21-1805 David GIBSON in Clark co. KY
6. Thomas F. Morrow b ?
married 2-21-1807 Margaret GIBSON in Clark Co. KY
7. Christopher Morrow b ?
married 7-12-1814 Lurana BUSH in Clark Co. daughter of Capt. Billy BUSH of
Clark Co. KY
8. Elizabeth Morrow b ?
9. James Morrow, Jr. b ?
married Annie ????
The children of James & Elizabeth Morrow sold the land on Lower Howards Creek
to Thomas Jones on March 10, 1814. The MORROW children, most of which were
married at the time of the sale, went their own ways. Most the history I do
know of is of William Morrow, but as to the rest of them, most has been lost.
I would appreciate any information that the members may have or know about on
these other MORROW children.
Thank you,
Bill Morrow
Louisville, KY
