Howdy -
I am a greenie(newbie?) on this list, but I have been on several other
rootsweb lists for some time. But if don't follow your particular protocal,
please forgive me.
I have just received a tip from one of your listmembers in connection with
search for the "nameless" aunt and uncle of my great-grandmother Mary Thomas
MATTINGLY, who was born in Bourbon Co. on 9Feb1837/8. The suggestion is that
I might try your KY birth records, which she said are in the Lexinton library
and contain the birth mother's maiden name. I think ggm's birth mother was
Polly SMITH who married ggm's father, Thomas MATTINGLY, on 4July1834 in
Bourbon Co. That won't give me the name of ggm's "aunt and uncle," but it will
nail one signpost.
Another one of you nice people told me that a Rose MATTINGLY married
Jacob PAUL on August 8, 1843 in Boyle Co., KY. I am checking through the
Norcal list now to see if Jacob PAUL shows up in Sonoma, CA in either the
1852 CA State Census or the 1860 US Census..
I am determined to find the names of the "aunt and uncle" who waggoned
their 12/13 year old neice, my ggmMary, to Sonoma in 1850. With their names,
I'll bet I can determine their wagon train and route to CA.
As you can probably tell, I am not a true "jennilogist" - just a
retired ole lawyer playing family historian.
Thanks for any help,
Bob Norris in Dallas
