This was posted to one of my lists this am, there has been a discussion on
how to obtain a service record from WW2 with out knowing the # etc... also
we were discussing the files from the St. Louis Archives.

It needs to be passed on.. thanks Jeannie <>< list mom

Hello List,

I hope I can be of some help here. It is my understanding that the records
that were burned were the originial records, but they had all been put on
microfilm before the fire and that is what they have recently discovered.
My husband and I are active in the American Legion and VFW and both
organizations have a service officer who should be able to put you in touch
with your local Veterans Admin. Service Officer. In order to join the
Legion or VFW you are required to have a DD214 which is your separation
papers from the service and these veterans officers are able to get them for
us all of the time. These papers would contain the service number as well
as other service related information. If you have, or can get, the social
security number it would be helpful because that is a part of their records.
If there is any thing else that we can do to be of help, please let me know.
Nancy English Heil
