I am looking for the parents of John and William Harvey, born
respectively, 1846 and 1849. The 1860 Breathitt Census finds them in,
respectively, the homes of Henry Hudson and Morgan>Howard. I note that
Henry Hudson's wife, Elizabeth, was the daughter of John "Jack" Campbell
and Patsy Campbell. In LDS records, William appears as the son of Patsy
Campbell and Andrew Harvey. The record was submitted at the turn of the
century by either William himself, or his daughter, Elizabeth. They were
members of the LDS Church there in Campton KY. Unfortunately, there is
absolutely nothing to back this up,
nor is the LDS church willing to reveal the name of the submitter of the
information, for that, in itself, could lend much credibility to the
information. William had a son, John, whom we cannot trace into
adulthood. William's daughter, Elizabeth, was much like me...she never
had any children of her own, but ended up raising several cousins' kids.
I am proud to own one of her quilts, a beautiful wedding ring quilt sewn
by her and her husband, Parris Archile Bailey, in the late 1800's.

As far as I know, John was not a mormon, although my great-aunt says he
wore a beard and a black wide-brimmed hat. Another family rumor was
that they were in some way associated with the McKinney clan. Of
course, like all Harveys in the Breathitt Area, we have strong
associations with the Campbells, Combs, Fugates, McIntoshes, Millers,
Neices and Ritchies. I feel that any references to John and William in
an 1850 census could contain clues to their parentage. I am at a brick
wall, especially since I cannot place an Andrew Harvey of suitable age
in Breathitt in 1845. Andrew Sr. Harvey passed away in the late
1830s,and Andrew Jr was long married to Mary Noble, and supposedly had
left Breathitt to homestead in Missouri in 1841 or so. Another Harvey
Researcher in the Breathitt area has supposed that John and William were
born out of wedlock, but I can find no support of that, either.

Please keep me in mind if you stumble across the Harveys in your
genealogical pursuits in Breathitt and surrounding counties! Thanks for
your time and efforts!
